The Becky Luh Bar Stool is a collectible piece of functional sculpture defined by an expressive silhouette, meticulous upholstery, and a graphic checkerboard composition.

Its fluid, twisting body rises into a generously curved saddle seat, creating a form that feels almost in motion. A circular metal footrest cuts through the softness of the upholstered body, adding an architectural counterpoint to the stool's sweeping curves.

 Crafted, Not Printed

The checkerboard is not a printed surface.

Each individual panel of warm ivory, deep burgundy, and midnight navy upholstery is separately cut and stitched together by hand, creating the continuous checkerboard that wraps around the entire form.

This construction brings the precision and craftsmanship of fashion and leather goods into furniture making. Seams become part of the design rather than something to conceal, giving the surface depth, tactility, and subtle variations that distinguish each piece.

The saddle is the most technically demanding element. Its checkerboard grid must travel across a complex double-curved surface while maintaining the rhythm and proportion of the pattern. Each panel is individually shaped and carefully positioned by a skilled upholsterer so that the checkerboard appears to flow naturally with the geometry rather than simply sitting on top of it.

The result is a piece whose craftsmanship becomes more apparent the closer it is viewed.

Hand-upholstered and individually finished. Natural variations in stitching, panel alignment, and surface character are considered part of the piece.
